the birth of baby Leo
Tuesday the big day was finally here! After weeks of trips to and from Toronto (a 3 hour drive) for appointments and ultrasounds and echoes (due to heart problems) the day of his birth had finally come. The c section was postponed so we waited nervously for a few hours.
Despite having received permission before hand from her OB to have the entire c section photographed there was a little mixup and the nurse didn’t get the memo. :( Boohoo. So I waited not-so-patiently in the waiting room to hear if he was ok and to photograph his first minutes.
As soon as he was out and the doctors had made sure he was stable I was able to go see/photograph him.
Because of his heart problems they were not able to hold him for more than a minute, but we did get to talk to him and look at him.
He is healthy and chubby and beautiful and doing well and they are hoping to be able to bring him home in a week or so. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he has a long road ahead still.
And a huge congratulations to Mark and Lauren on their beautiful little son!
The birth of Gabriella (part 2)
I couldn’t limit this to only one post, so here is part 2.
I hope you enjoy a few more of this beautiful baby girl.
So alert!
Her daddy’s first time holding her…
Her mom and dad checking out all her tiny little details. I love the gentleness of her daddy in this one. Daddys and their daughters….
Thank you so much Jenn for letting me share this beautiful experience with you and your husband!
the birth of Gabriella (part 1)
What an amazing morning! I had the privilege of attending another birth. The mom is another local photographer and we have become internet friends in the past year and a half. When I was pregnant with my son she offered a little trade, she would take my maternity pictures if I would do the same for her in return if they had another baby. Just over a year later and I was able to repay the favour.
They didn’t know if they were having a boy or girl so that made it even more exciting. They have 3 boys and were really hoping for a girl.
The mom was amazing, a complete superstar. She was so strong and positive the whole time!
These next few are when she asked her husband what they had and he told her that she had a daughter.
I think this is the moment when I started crying
It still gives me chills remembering her joy…
Daddy cutting the cord…
More tears of joy…
I think baby girl might already want to be a nurse or doctor
She grabbed on and wouldn’t let go.
The Birth of Baby “L”
I’ve been on call for about a month now waiting for a new little lift to make her appearance. She gave her mom a few false alarms, but finally decided, on Friday, to really come.
I got a warning text around 4pm that today would be the day so I got my things together, made sure the kids had everything they needed for an evening with their grandparents, and headed out. (This client lives about 1.5 hours south of me)
By the time I got there she was doing really well and getting into harder labor. I had to wait in a small waiting room for about an hour while she was in triage. (only one person is allowed in triage with you and this hospital is pretty strict, but that was fine since I like to leave mom and dad alone during the early stages) [I was able to visit with 2 expecting moms in the waiting room. These poor women were 10 and 11 days late, Ughhhhh, waiting to be induced but ended up being turned away because it was too busy that night.
]
Once we moved into a private room though things went pretty quick. Mom spent some time in the whirlpool tub and when she got out it was already time to get pushing.
Mom did so well. She was so strong and calm, and the dad was there supporting her the whole time.
After very little time at all a beautiful baby was born.
She was doing very well so they let mom hold her for a while before working on her which was so great for baby and mom.
It was such a beautiful, quick, and “uneventful” birth and I was home by just after midnight.
Welcome to the world little “L”!

ok, seriously, this one (below) is one of my favorites! i love the face that Whitney (one of the midwives) is making. I think that someone made a joke about placentas as she was showing it. I just think she’s adorable, so sorry if the placenta freaks anyone out.

look at how gorgeous she is! even after many hours of labour!
